The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not PRBS-determined temporal frequency characteristics of VEP are valid and useful in evaluating glaucoma. Temporal frequency characteristics (TFC) of VEP are used to detect certain diseases involving the retina or optic nerve. PRBS-determined TFC are obtained from VEP elicited by pseudorandom binary sequence stimulation. We have previously reported their advantage in terms of measurement time. TFCs of VEP were measured from 33 eyes with glaucoma and compared with those of 22 normal eyes. In glaucoma, TFC amplitudes at 15 Hz were generally decreased according to glaucoma stage, indicating that these values are reasonable for evaluating glaucoma. Decreases in these values were also correlated with peripheral visual field loss, para-central scotoma development and visual acuity decrease.
