Transmission Factors in Telephony

Roger L. Freeman · 2002

Abstract Transmission in telecommunications involves the production, transport, and delivery of a quality signal from source to destination (end user). A number of factors affect the signal quality received at the destination. Our concern here is speech signal quality as perceived by the user at the distant end. This chapter treats such factors as overall loudness rating of the speech signal, noise effects, control of echo and singing, amplitude distortion, group delay distortion, quantization distortion, and related interface topics dealing with speech transmission.
