Designing Automotive Electrical/electronic (E/E) Systems For Vehicle Assembly And Service
Michael C. Cwiek · 2005
Increasing electronic feature content and electrical system complexity give rise to an ever growing challenge for vehicle assembly and service. Electrical/Electronic (E/E) system design contains some key elements for "building it right" and "servicing it right" - the first time. Thoughtful system planning and integration can provide an E/E execution which not only minimizes the proliferation of assembly and service processing steps, but also may actually eliminate some of these steps. An integrated E/E system has the capability of interacting and participating with vehicle assembly and service; the vehicle itself taking on some of the tools of production and test. Whereas the process requirements for assembly and service are often satisfied by the same design, accommodation of unique (and sometimes conflicting) requirements need to be reckoned with. This paper will attempt to provide an overview on how an integrated E/E system designed for assembly and service can help manage the automotive electronic explosion.
