Overview of the MPEG-7 Standard and of Future Challenges for Visual Information Analysis

This paper presents an overview of the MPEG- standard: the Multimedia Content Description Interface. It focuses on visual information description including low-level visual Descriptors and Segment Description Schemes. The paper also discusses some challenges in visual information analysis that will have to be faced in the future to allow efficient MPEG- -based applications.
