Implicitness as a guiding principle in machine translation

Klaus Schubert · 1988

Multilingual extensibility requires an MT system to have a language-independent pivot. It is argued that an ideal, purely semantic pivot is impossible. A translation method is described in which semantic relations are kept implicit in syntax, while the semantic and distinctions are implicit in the words of a full-fledged language used as pivot.
