A visual tracking control strategy based on human vision physiological mechanisms
Xiaobo Mao, Tiejun Chen · 2009
Based on human visual characteristics of nonuniform visual acuity on retina area and binocular coordinated head-eye motion, a bionic visual tracking control strategy is proposed. Tracking task is performed by coordinating omnidirectional vision system and binocular vision system. The omnidirectional vision imitates the foveal periphery keeping 360deg field of vision under surveillance, detects target and locates new target rapidly (i.e., saccade). The binocular vision imitates the fovea of eye, orients gaze onto the target and attempts to move at the same velocity as the target to keep the target image stable on the fovea, realizing smooth pursuit, vestibulo-ocular reflex and vergence movements like human eyes. The control method of system and model of binocular coordinated head-eye motion are introduced. Theory analysis and simulation results have confirmed the effectiveness of proposed method and model.
