Pipelined balanced gamma network for broadband communications switch fabrics

A new interconnection network structure, based on the concept of pipelining, is proposed. This structure comprises of one control plane and a set of data planes. The control plane is responsible for determining the routing decisions for arriving packets and assigning packets which would be successfully routed to the various data planes. Simulation results show that the throughput of the proposed network is close to unity, and the average delay is very small even in networks with 1024 input lines and just one buffer at each input line. Thus, this network is more attractive for use in broadband communications switch fabrics than those based on the banyan structure.
