We introduce a system for generating novel recipes and use that context to examine some current theoretical ideas for computational creativity. Specifically, we have found that the notion of a single inspiring set can be generalized into two separate sets used for generation and evaluation, respectively, with the result being greater novelty as well as system flexibility (and the potential for natural meta-level creativity), that explicitly measuring artefact typicality is not always necessary, and that explicitly defining an artefact hierarchically results in greater novelty. 1
