Interference mitigation in frequency-hopped spread-spectrum systems

Andrew P. Worthen, W.E. Stark · 2002

In this paper we explore the error probability of different coding schemes in a frequency-hopped spread-spectrum communication systems subject to partial-band interference and a system subject to Rayleigh fading. The interplay between block length of the code and channel memory is quantified. We show that there is an optimal memory length that maximizes performance. At low signal-to-noise ratios (or close to capacity) large memory is better while at large signal-to-noise ratio smaller memory is optimum.
