Sparse Matrix Techniques in Power Systems

Krishna M. Sambarapu, S. Mark Halpin · Proceedings · 2007

The ever increasing demand for electrical power has resulted in modern power transmission systems that are continually growing in size. Thus power systems computations like power flow and short circuit analysis for large systems which typically involve the use of very large matrices have become even more tedious. The usage of established sparse matrix storage and reordering techniques such as VEPD (Tewarson, 1973) and RCM (Cuthill and McKee, 1969) in alleviating some of these problems is explained in this paper.
