This article reports on the results of a simulation study to investigate the relative performance of five Differentiated Services traffic conditioners in a range of situation created by varying traffic patterns and subscription levels in a fixed topology network. Two performance measures---TargetRatio and GreenRatio---are defined, justified, and used to compare the traffic conditioners. One measure was more discriminating than the other. A variant of the second measure was used to further illuminate the differences between conditioners. The results suggest that the performance of the conditioners are sensitive to parameter values such as token bucket size and that the traffic patterns should also be taken into consideration when deciding on values for the configuration parameters.
