Suggested fingering for keyboards
Bassam Alfarhan Bassam, David E. Sandberg · 2013
Learning how to play the piano can be a difficult task sinceit is often not clear what finger should play what key onthe keyboard. An algorithm that provides the pianist witha suggested fingering for a certain piece of music wouldtherefore aid in learning to play the piano as efficiently aspossible. All the algorithms developed to date have madeuse of different rules to calculate the difficulty of a specificfingering. The aim of this study was to take some of theserules and add additional functionality in order to create analgorithm that was able to produce reasonable fingerings. The question was if it was possible to add support forinterleaved triads and different articulations to the set ofrules and create a reasonable algorithm. The results confirmed that it was possible but that furtherresearch would be needed in order to prove that theadded functionality was consistent.
