A universal hierarchical language interface for IMS (abstract)
M. Mehdi Owrang O. · 1988
An interface between the universal query and the hierarchical database system of IMS is examined. Such interface enables the hierarchical database user with a simplified model in which he can compose queries without regard to the underlying structure of the database. The transformation of the universal query to the hierarchical DML is described and example illustrating the process is given. The discussion has been limited to operating in the environment where the hierarchical database is represented within one hierarchical definition tree. Hypergraphs are used as the intermediate representation format for the query during the translation process.
