For a company to compete successfully in the market for switching systems, it requires a family of high quality products developed at reasonable cost. Since software development accounts for a significant portion of the cost of a switching system, it is imperative that a switching software project use the most productive development environment available. As with all large software projects, version management is a crucial component of this environment. The singular characteristics of the marketplace for switching systems, however, place special requirements on a version management system above and beyond those required for other large software projects. >
