A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a tem-porary network without the use of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. There are a number of routing schemes that have been proposed and several of these have been already extensively simulated or implemented as well. In this paper, we propose an extension method of Multi-path Location Aided Routing (MLAR) based on a caching strategy from replacing Location-Aided Routing (LAR) to e‐ciently search and select for multiple paths. The method is also to utilize position information to provide more reliable as well as e‐cient routing for ad hoc networks. MLAR is implemented through simulation by using Network Simulator (ns-2) to study its e‐ciency, and other properties. Random waypoint mobility is used to compare our approach versus difierent methods such as Ad Hoc On-Demand Distant Vector (AODV), Ad Hoc On-Demand Multi-path Distant Vector (AOMDV) and LAR, for a range of mobility and communication models. Simulation results demonstrate the performance beneflts of the proposed method over the original LAR and AODV in most movement scenarios. AOMDV delivers more packets than MLAR consistently, although it does more frequent ∞ooding of control packets than MLAR and thus requires higher bandwidth.
