With higher levels of integration and the advancing application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) technology, the emerging digital downconverter (DDC) has greatly contributed to enabling the concept of software radio partially to become a product reality. HSP50214 (A/B) programmable downconverter (PDC) is a representative DDC commercial chip with high performance supplied by Harris Semiconductor (now Intersil Corporation). This PDC chip has ten agile digital filters for decimation, interpolation and signal spectral shaping. But it is a much sticky business to configure the ten digital filters properly to satisfy the signal requirements. This paper provides a search algorithm for automatic configuration, which is optimized on condition that the PDC is able to implement the expected functions.
