Endoscopy image compression and encryption under fault tolerant ubiquitous environment

This paper addresses image compression and fault tolerant encryption of continuous video streams such as digital endoscopy and computer tomography for secure transmission and lower data traffic. Block cipher algorithms may experience multiple pixel defects due to single bit error in an encrypted message. The proposed fault tolerant scheme addresses this error avalanche effect exploiting a three-dimensional data shuffling process, which disperses error bits on many image frames resulting in sparsely isolated errors. Averaging or majority voting with neighboring pixels can tolerate prominent pixel defects of intestine images without increase in data volume for error correction.
