Low Power Architectures for the Next Century

Michael A. Schuette · 1996

In the future, the majority of homes will h;ave a PC. On the PC, users will store large amounts of personal information as well as have access to large amounts of publicly available information and services through networks such as the Internet. The PC will be tied into many of today’s disparate and independent home subsystems such as the phone, anti-theft, climate control, etc. A large number of PC owners will demand wireless access to this PC and the other services and information sources to which it is coupled. Moreover, owners will want access to this information from a variety of locations, e.g. home, office, local shopping areas, hotels, etc., and in as convenient and inexpensive a manner as possible. A similar situation will exist in a majority of business offices, with only the information services and sources being different.
