Intelligent tutoring systems for Air Force applications
Kathleen M. Swigger, Brigitte Holman · 2003
Two intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) developed for US Air Force applications are discussed. The first system is designed to teach students how to deduce a satellite's orbital elements by looking at a graphic display of a satellite's ground track. The system also teaches students how to use more systematic behaviors to explore this domain. The second system, an intelligent debriefer, is designed to generate a teaching script by comparing pre-mission training data to actual flight data. The system detects the most significant events, diagnoses errors, and proposes an instructional sequence. After the system assembles the event list, it generates a list of appropriate graphics, tutorials, or videos to accompany the script. While each of the systems was developed for a specific application, they both share certain features and ideas that enable them to perform intelligently. These common features and the principles of each system are discussed.>
