Low-Rank Multistage MMSE Receiver for MIMO DS-CDMA in Multipath

In this paper, we consider multiuser detection using two transmitter antennas and multiple receiver antennas for asynchronous direct-sequence (DS) code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems. A recently proposed transmit diversity scheme known as transmit diversity simulcast (OTD-S) is considered. A low complexity version of the proposed receiver is developed that utilizes the concept of the reduced-rank multistage Wiener filter (MSWF). The technique obviates the necessity of either a covariance matrix inversion or an eigen-decomposition. Simula- tion results show that the proposed receiver provides superior performance as an increasing function of the size of the receiver antennas. When compared with the full rank MMSE receiver, the proposed receiver can maintain a similar performance level.
