A UNIFIED APPROACH TO THE MODEL-ASSISTED DETERMINATION OF PROBABILITY OF DETECTION

Russell B. Thompson, Donald O. Thompson, Dale E. Chimenti · AIP conference proceedings · 2008

The transfer function and full model assisted approaches have each been used for determining Model Assisted Probability of Detection (MAPOD). This paper shows that these can be viewed as a part of a single, unified MAPOD approach in which either experiment or physics‐based theoretical models (previously validated by experiment) are used to extend the information gained in empirical measurements to new situations. Included are a discussion of the MAPOD philosophy, a unified protocol which includes the previous approaches, and the interpretation of three previously conducted examples in the context of this unified protocol.
