In learning foreign languages, especially when learners want to polish their conversation skills, they need to put themselves in a variety of situations where they perform various tasks in their target languages. Conventional systems only realize exercises for fixed phrases or dialog practices in a predetermined dialog patterns. Ideally, the learners need a learning environment that dynamically changes in accordance with the flow of the dialog and the learners must decide what to say by themselves according to the changing environment. Such a learning environment needs a teacher who helps the learners continue the dialog even if their utterances are somewhat awkward or ungrammatical. This research aims to construct a system that plays a teacher’s role of this kind. The system should accept any inputs from learners and properly interpret them. This report describes how to realize such a system.
