Jonathan L. Katz, Donald Lynden-Bell · Proceedings of the Royal Society of London A Mathematical and Physical Sciences · 1982

Abstract Equations of motion of inviscid non-barotropic fluids are derived from a Lagrangian th at incorporates local conservation of mass, entropy, circulation and potential vorticity. A sufficient condition for stability is obtained by minimizing the potential terms.
