Channel allocation strategy for voice/data TDMA systems
Theodore V. Buot · 2002
In this paper, a method of integrating voice and data is presented. A voice access method similar to the one proposed in RACE 2084 is used but this time a fast activity speech detector is employed to achieve higher multiplexing gain. For the data access, a protocol called frame lookahead technique is proposed which guarantees a negligible effect to the performance of the voice service. The proposed protocol considered the data as very low priority information thereby incorporating data preemption. However, in the proposed protocol a short data access delay is achieved even at high load condition which makes this protocol attractive to a wide range of services. In the following sections, a description of the protocol, speech model and system parameters are presented. The data access performance is mainly evaluated using simulations.
