A Soft Admission Control methodology for wireless Ad-Hoc networks: Evaluating the impact on existing flows before admission

The collision probability experienced by each node on a link plays an important role in estimating the available bandwidth at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. The available bandwidth is a crucial information to the decision made by Admission Control for QoS support in wireless networks. Most of existing Admission Control schemes proposed for wireless Ad-Hoc networks neglect the fact that collision probability might change significantly after a new flow is set up in the network, which will lead to the wrong Admission Control decision. In this study, a novel process called Soft Admission Control has been proposed in order to assess the change in collision probability and promptly reject the flows that tend to cause evident collision increase. The results presented in this research justify the validity and effectiveness of this approach.
