ICT learning: Is it more valuable for the young?
Savithri Subramanian · The International Journal of Education and Development using Information and Communication Technology (The University of the West Indies) · 2006
The article is based on ethnographic action research undertaken in a rural area of Tamil Nadu, India. Small centres are set up in the houses of women in the villages, in order to create access to ICTs (information and communication technology) for these rural women. While women have learnt to use some of these modern ICTs and make use of them, increasingly it is the young boys and girls of the community who more often access the centres. The article explores some of the socio-cultural factors that may be leading to this subtle but definite change.
