ON-THE-FLY MULTI TRACK MIXING

François Pachet, Olivier Delerue · 2000

We propose a system for performing on-the-fly mixing of audio sources, to produce spatialized sound. We introduce to this aim a constraint system linked to a graphical user interface representing the sound sources, and connected to a spatializer. The constraint system allows to express various sorts of properties on configuration of sound sources. When the user moves one source through the interface, the constraint system is activated and attempts to enforce the constraints that may have been violated. The resulting system allows to perform mixing onthe -fly, while letting the user choose between several listening viewpoints in a coherent manner. We report on the design of the system and an audio implementation using Microsoft DirectX API.
