An adaptive color transform approach and its application in 4∶4∶4 video coding

This paper deals with an approach that extends block-based video-coding techniques by an adaptive color space trans-form. The presented technique allows the encoder to switch between several given color space representations with the objective to maximize the overall rate-distortion gain. Simu-lations based on the current draft of the H.264/MPEG4-AVC 4:4:4 extensions demonstrate that our technique guarantees a rate-distortion performance equal or better than that ob-tained when using any of the individual color spaces only. 1.
