Convergence of the Successive Overrelaxation Method

A sufficient condition for the convergence of the successive overrelaxation (SOR) method is obtained. It is also shown that the relaxation factor of the SOR method may require a positive lower bound on its interval of convergence, which implies that this condition is not necessary.
