Further note on a method of staining malarial parasites in thick blood films

J. W. Field · Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene · 1941

Observations are made on a simple method of staining malarial parasites in thick blood films which: (a) Does not require prolonged drying of the blood. (b) Produces the Romanowsky effect in a total staining time of less than 10 seconds. (c) Is tri-chromatic with sharp colour contrasts between parasites and the ground of laked red cells on which they lie. (d) Damages leucocytes and blood protozoa less than do the standard methods of Giemsa staining.
