Abstract Specificities of optimal design problem in electromagnetic are emphasized. To overcome the revolting difficulties met with the classical stochastic methods, a new tabu search algorithm for global optimization of multimodal functions with continuous variables is presented and used for solving some of this kind of electromagnetic optimization problems such as Bruhless DC motor, SMES optimization, and die mold press.
