Zero Based Blind Equalizer Implementation using Zero Forcing, MMSE and Decision Feedback Concepts

A novel approach for blind channel equalizer design which uses channel zero information is presented in the paper. The second order statistics of the received signal is combined with the information of a single slice of fourth order cumulants to efficiently identify a finite impulse response (FIR) channel with the use of a very small number of data samples. It is shown how the estimated FIR channel zeros can be used in the design of three different equalizers: zero forcing (ZF) equalizer, minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer, decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The equalizer output can be recursively used to improve the performance of the initial channel estimation by using the finite alphabet properties of the transmitted signal. Simulations are used to indicate the performance differences of the designed equalizers
