Modeling Real DASD Configurations

David B. Hunter, Patricia A. Jacobs · Birkhäuser Boston eBooks · 1982

In this paper we survey modeling of Direct Access Storage Devices (DASD) from the point of view of a practitioner attempting to model a real, running system. Our example is DASD subsystems for IBM MVS systems. We examine the features of DASD configurations and the components of DASD service and response times, indicating the important features for performance management. We then treat the incorporation of real performance data in such models and the resulting problems which arise.
