Meeting NMC Standards through development of a mentor register

The NMC Standards to Support Learning and Assessment in Practice (NMC, 2008) require health trusts to provide a current and up to date local register of mentors and practice teachers available to support students on NMC approved programmes. Within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, this has allowed opportunities for the development of new and exciting software in conjunction with the IT Department, which will pave the way for a reliable and robust implementation of the standards at ward level. The project has brokered dynamic relationships between nursing and IT advancements and shown that computer software can provide unique solutions to regulatory requirements.
