The biometric identification of individuals has many safety and security applications in several fields of major interest, ranging from healthcare to banking to defense. Current biometric technologies are hardly suitable for remote (online) massive use and contain no information about the state of the person at the time of identification. Biometric solutions to date rely on static biological features. Signatures, such as fingerprints and DNA, are highly sensitive and specific but they provide no means for determining tampering risk. We explore the possibility of using the dynamic biometric features of the radial artery pulse for remote person identification with a measurable confidence level.
