Optimal data retrieval for high density storage
H. J. Burkhardt · 2003
For increased track densities or in optical storage media (high areal density) crosstalk is observed between the tracks, with two-dimensional dispersion. The author discusses maximum a posteriori data-detection techniques for signals corrupted by one- and two-dimensional intersymbol interference and additive noise. The distortions are modeled by Markov processes, and dynamic programming in the form of a Viterbi algorithm is applied to the problem of optimal data retrieval. Aspects such as detection performance and implementation considerations are discussed.>
