A Study in Comparing Acoustic Space: Korean and Hindi Vowels
Hyun-Kyung Lee, Vaishna Narang · 2010
The present paper is an empirical study on acoustic space of five peripheral vowels of Korean and Hindi. The study attempts to explore the difference between acoustic space Hindi and Korean that will have significant implications for any language teaching program, as well as in other fields such as speech pathology and forensic acoustics for speaker identification studies. Data from acoustic analysis would also be of great help to the teacher who is teaching foreign language in understanding and explaining the precise differences between L1 & L2. We also wish to examine the Dispersion Theory (D.T. hypothesis) and the Quantal Theory of Speech (QTS) in the light of the findings of the study.
