ASIC synthesis of a flexible 80 Mbit/s Reed-Solomon Codec

This paper demonstrates the use of high level synthesis techniques for the realisation of a high speed Reed-Solomon codec. The new concept allows to perform fast design exploration over a large variety of architectural styles ranging from medium speed microcoded processors to highly pipelined, lowly multiplexed data paths. An error free transfer is assured between all levels in the design process and the design time is significantly reduced.
