Supporting heterogeneous data import for data visualization

Effective data visualization requires the combination of datasets from a variety of sources and in a variety of data formats.Unfortunately, visualization software systems typically support only a rudimentary tabular data import facility, forcing the system user to construct elaborate ad 6oc data import mechanisms.We describe the construction of a Front-end" conversion system designed to allow the simple import of a wide range of public, private, and locally defined data formats of particular interest in natural resource visualization applications.
