Adaptive space-time equalization for rapidly fading communication channels

T. Bores, G.G. Raleigh, Michael Anthony Pollack · 2002

A linear space-time equalizer structure is described for reverse link adaptive antenna arrays. A new algorithm is proposed for updating the equalizer weights based on the SINR cost function. Experiments complying with the up-banded IS-136 standard demonstrate that the new method is able to improve signal quality and increase network capacity in a rapidly fading, interference-dominated propagation environment. Theoretical and practical results suggest that SINR-based algorithms perform better than MSE-based algorithms such as RLS.
