Application of a Predictive Model towards Fire Risks in Underground Metropolitan Transportation Based on Continuous Hazard Tracking

Heng Quan Zhang, Wei Wei Wu · 2008

With the rapid development of underground metropolitan transportation, the problem of safety risks, especially the fire risks, have always been accorded great attention by researchers and practitioners. In order to reduce the uncertainty of fire risks in underground metropolitan transportation, the main objective of this paper is to devise a proactive approach to dynamically predict and control conditions leading to fire hazards. A literature review of fire risks in underground metropolitan transportation is conducted firstly. Then, a predictive model that is based on the continuous tracking of fire hazards is applied to predict the fire risks of underground metropolitan transportation. Using the model, the certain system of underground metropolitan transportation can be identified as "under control" or "out of control" based on the methods of sampling and control charts. This research would provide us with an effective and valid method to lessen the uncertainty of fire hazards in underground metropolitan transportation as much as possible.
