Traffic modeling for internet backbone networks
Rhys Smith, A.B. Martinez · 2005
At the end user interface, the primary transport protocol for the Internet is Internet protocol (IP). Long distance (long haul) Internet traffic is transported over the Internet backbone, which consists of a worldwide network of high-speed asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches. In this paper, we propose a model for the interarrival times of Internet backbone traffic based on an analysis of real ATM network traffic.
