Real-time emulation of indoor multipath propagation channels using statistical and deterministic FIR models and acoustic charge transport technology

A.J. Vigil · 2002

The results of practical indoor multipath channel emulation based on acoustic charge transport (ACT) technology in general and the ACT programmable transversal filter (PTF) in particular are presented. The ACT PTF is shown to be an ideal finite impulse response (FIR) filter for emulating indoor multipath channels. Its time duration supports the measured excess delays reported for indoor multipath channels. Its bandwidth supports the requirements of state of the art commercial terrestrial spread spectrum communication links. Its programmable nature lends itself to statistical as well as deterministic FIR models. The speed with which the ACT PTF may be reprogrammed is shown to enable real-time emulation. It is also shown that programmable FIR filtering with ACT technology will soon be capable of emulating urban multipath in real time.
