PCC: A Modeling Technique for Mixed Control/Data Flow Systems

Many signal processing systems make use of event driven mechanisms # typically based on #nite state ma# chines #FSMs# # to control the operation of the compu# tationally intensive #data #ow# parts. The state ma# chines in turn are often fueled by external inputs as wellasbyfeedback from the signal processing portions of the system. Packet#basedtransmission systems are agood example for such a close interaction between data and control #ow. For a smooth design #ow with a maximum degree of modularity it is of crucial importancetobe able to model the complete functionality of the system# con# taining both control and data #ow# within one single design environment. While the degree of abstraction should be su#ciently high to model and simulate e## ciently# the link to implementation has to be fully sup# ported. For these reasons we developedacomputational mo# del that integrates the speci#cation of control and data #ow. It combines the notion of multirate dynamic data #ow graphs with eve...
