'Design for change' - Simulation for advanced space and missile system communication architectures
Donald M. Leskiw, Donald R. Pflug · Space Technology Conference and Exposition · 1999
1. ABSTRACTt A new approach for simulating very-large scale network centric architectures is presented. Three enabling technologies - object oriented modeling, discrete event simulation, and high performance computing - combine. to enable scalable simulation of network aware systems of systems. The simulation may include upwards of a million objects, and employ detailed models for host and link behavior. Thus scenarios and concepts for operations can be included with actual protocol code selected for test and evaluation. A critical issue is how to instantiate and configure so many objects and their associated details. For this purpose, a subset of the Extensible Markup Language (XML), dubbed Domain Modeling Language (DML) is used together with a new simulation technology: the simulation framework for scalable, self-organizing simulations, which is publicly available from ssfnet.org.
