STT-vegas: a simple single-trip time based modification of Vegas

Hong Zhou · 2006

TCP Vegas represents a positive step to improve TCP congestion control in the Internet. However, it does not perform well in asymmetric and wireless networks. This paper introduces a simple Single-Trip Time (STT) based modification to TCP Vegas, namely STT-Vegas, to improve the performance of TCP Vegas. We investigated its performance for both single and multiple STT-Vegas connections in various network scenarios. The simulation studies have shown that STT-Vegas provides better performance than its counterparts on fairness, throughput, and packet loss especially in a traffic asymmetric network. Index Terms— congestion control, Vegas, fairness, and single-trip time.
