A pipelined binary coded decimal adder using the residue number system

Oluwole Adegbenro, Raifu Isola Salawu · International Journal of Electronics · 1987

The residue number system (RNS) is applied in binary coded decimal (BCD) addition, The use of this number system means improved speed of operation because of its carry-free property and the incorporation of a decimal carry-look-ahead (CLA) scheme. The implementation of the adder circuit is based on the use of the dynamic-type shift register which ensures its compactness and hence its suitability for VLSI implementation.
