Abstract Millions of people use the Internet to communicate through instant messaging, e‐mail, chat, discussion groups, and newsgroups. They also conduct research, shop, read news, listen to music and radio, transfer files, and even watch TV on their personal computer. To be successful in a profession today, individuals need to be able to download from the Internet efficiently. Downloading means the transfer of a file to the user's computer. By understanding the fundamentals of downloading from the Web, they will understand the types of files that can be downloaded, the security issues in downloading, and the legal aspects of downloading from the Web. This chapter will explain downloading with attendant details.
