BER Estimation for DS-Spread Spectrum Systems in Densely Foliaged Suburban Areas

Antonio Bruno De Britto Freire, Gervasio Dos Santos Cavalcante · 2006

This work proposes the use of a hybrid propagation model to prediction of the Bit Error Rate (BER) of DS-Spread Spectrum Systems in densely foliaged suburban areas, which are very common in the Amazon region. The hybrid model uses the method of minimum mean square error to adapt a conventional propagation model, whose errors are estimated and corrected by an artificial neural network. The BER estimation is accomplished by using the hybrid model to evaluate the power received by the Base Station of a Mobile Communication System that covers the considered suburban area. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated by measurements taken in the suburban area of the city of Marituba, Pará-Brazil.
