Multi Task Aircrew Workload Reduction Through Speech Processor Integration

H. Sorensen, John Friske, Timothy D. Berry · 2004

Intelligent agent technology is being applied to the space mission consoles for the Space Tracking and Surveillance System (STSS) and the Space Based InfraRed System (SBIRS)LOW to perform debrief operations. The developmental application is being performed through the Satellite Operations Review Tool (SORT) Program that is also pursuing virtual interface changes to improve Human Computer Interfaces (HCI) within those satellite systems. Enhancement funds were acquired through the US Defense Acquisition Challenge Program to rapidly develop two of these virtual interface technologies and apply them to an additional technology domain. The two technologies funded by this advancement are speech recognition and multi-agent system application and will be applied to AWACS aircraft system for future upgrades. The application of the developing technologies to both satellite systems and AWACS systems integrates research and development efforts and will reduce the technical risk of both training for and operation of the fielded systems.
